Where to Walk, Bike & Enjoy the Weather in Aggieland

When the Texas humidity drops and the sun comes out, there is no better place to be than outdoors in the Brazos Valley. Whether you’re looking for a scenic stroll, a challenging bike trail, or something to do while you’re in town for the weekend, Aggieland has a spot for you.

Here is your guide to the best places to walk, bike, and enjoy the beautiful weather around Bryan and College Station.

Community Parks

Our local parks are the heart of the community, offering everything from serene ponds to massive athletic complexes.

  • Aggie Park – The premier outdoor space on the Texas A&M campus. With a scenic lake (perfect for catch-and-release fishing), plenty of shaded grass, and wide walking paths, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the university atmosphere.
  • Wolf Pen Creek Park – A College Station favorite featuring a large amphitheater, disc golf course, and a beautiful paved trail system that meanders along the creek.
  • Veterans Park & Athletic Complex – Known for its impressive memorial and expansive green spaces, this park offers long, paved walking loops that are great for getting your steps in while honoring those who served.
  • Research Park – Located on the west side of campus, this park offers a quieter, more natural setting with ponds and paths that are perfect for a peaceful afternoon walk.

Hiking & Nature Trails

If you want to escape the pavement and get closer to nature, head to these local trail systems.

Lake Bryan

Featuring over 20 miles of multi-use trails, Lake Bryan is a sanctuary for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in nature. Expertly maintained by the Brazos Valley Mountain Bike Association, the trails range from the beginner-friendly “Wildflower Alley” to more advanced routes for experienced hikers and riders. For a $5 daily entry fee (or a higher yearly fee), you gain access to stunning lakeside views, shaded woodland paths, and plenty of opportunities for birdwatching or fishing.

  • Gary Halter Nature Center (Lick Creek Park) – This nature preserve offers 5 miles of marked trails through meadows and woodlands. It’s one of the best places in BCS for nature study and birdwatching.
  • Millican Reserve – A beautiful private conservation community that offers a sophisticated trail system. Note that access is typically through membership or specific program partners, making it a peaceful and well-maintained escape for those who frequent it, and it’s a bit of a drive.

Biking in BCS

For those who prefer life on two wheels, College Station and Bryan offer excellent infrastructure for both road and trail biking.

  • Lick Creek Park Greenway – This 10-foot-wide, 3-mile paved trail connects Westfield Park to Lick Creek Park. It’s perfect for a smooth, leisurely ride without the worry of road traffic.
  • Lake Bryan (MTB Trails) – As mentioned above, Lake Bryan is the local headquarters for mountain biking, offering technical challenges and fast-paced dirt trails.
  • BCS Bike Map – Planning a longer route? The City of College Station provides an Official Bike Map to help you navigate bike lanes and designated routes safely throughout the city.
